Lessons at Ayala Heights (Underwater Dolphin Kick)
A few days ago, I started coaching the Ayala Harpoons and QCSC buccaneers together at Ayala Heights. One of my lesson was about Micheal Phelps, particularly his ability to swim dolhpin kick underwater fastest in the world during races. I told them the story of the "200 FR Race in Melbourne where he broke yet another World Record, racing Peter Van Den Hougenband" then asked them to watch the video in youtube and just take a look, and it is definitely something to watch.
The drill we did:
20x50m Freestyle on 50" with 10-15 dolphin kick underwater after the turns.
The Challenge:
We had markers 15m, 12.5m, 10m, and a 7.5m markers (with surgucal tubes) on the lanes they were swimming, and on each turn they have to pass that markers, if they missed the marker they'll get stuck on the rubber tubes after the turns.
The Goal:
To kick fast dolphin underwater passed the rubber tubing barrier after each turn on the freestyle swim.
Notes:
The kids seemed to enjoy swimming underwater and pass that rubber tubing tied on the lanes.
